World Student Christian Federation is the international umbrella
of Student Christian Movements. It is made up of tertiary and secondary
students in almost 100 countries. WSCF is committed to ecumenism: it emphasises the liberating message of the Christian gospel
and the rights of people world-wide to live in dignity and peace. The struggle
of women against the various forms of oppression which make their lives
undignified and violent, therefore, is also part of our commitment.
• Cover: Timorese woman with traditional weaving. People in West
and East Timor, despite their different colonial histories – and a brutal
Indonesian war in the East – still retain many traditional customs. Traders
from other parts of Indonesia visit Timor, buying the woven cloth cheaply, to
re-sell in Bali and Java at large profits.
