EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE

Leader: Lord, we live in a world where injustice-economic and social, narrow principles of cast of casteism and parochialism reigns supreme… yet we as Christians have not raised our little fingers to stand up for those people…

who never had a square meal for days together… who were locked behind bars for having stolen food when they were hungry… who led processions demanding land for the tiller…

All:       We lower our heads in shame. Forgive us and help us, O Lord.

L:         Lord we see people sleeping on the pavements. We read in the papers sometimes back of the story of a woman in Calcutta who gave birth to two children near a garbage can.... she was so tired and helpless that when the dogs came to eat the leftovers she could not raise her voice to chase the dogs away from her children… all what she could do was helplessly watch the dogs tearing her newborn babies… yet, there were some of us- Christians racing by that street in limousines… with no time for the other…

All:       We lower our heads

L:         Lord, you have said: “He with two coats, let him impart to him that hath none” Yet Lord, we as Christians have been greedy and have been accumulating wealth joining

hands with the ruling powers that be…

All:       We lower our heads…

L:         Lord, you have said: “Do not be anxious about food and drink and clothing to cover your body”. For being too concerned about food and clothing… for giving too much importance to works that are seen by the public and neglecting the work that must be done behind the scene…

All:       We lower our heads…

(Silence for a moment and then the following is read by one person, after every verse: “Into that heaven of freedom, My Father, let our people awake…” to be said by all.)

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments of narrow principles of casteism and parochialism...... Into

Where the nation can be free from the western neo-colonialism through its multinational corporations.... Into

Where the land is not ruled by capitalist oppressors..... Into

Where the rich and poor will sit together and dine..... Into

Where the words of solidarity come from the depth of feeling and concern..... Into

Where the mind is led forward by Thee into ever widening thought and action.... Into
