BIBLICAL-THEOLOGICAL INPUTS:

Three sessions on biblical and theological reflections capped the discussions on politics and development. The first of them was led by Dr. Nantawan Boonprasant on the theme: "The faith that takes a stand", drawing inspiration from the story of the blind man healed by Jesus as narrated in the Gospels.

Dr. Kim, Yong Bock, unable to be present at the meeting sent his text on "Minjung and Theology" for reading. His paper drew references to the stories of Asian people’s struggles, particularly concentrating on the Korean A-bomb victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Fr. Miguel Garaizabal clarifying a point during coffee-break.

Fr. Miguel Garaizabal speaking on "Jesus in Asia" succinctly drew parallels of class contradictions that existed at the time of Jesus and in today's Asia. "The hope of the farmers and workers for the coming of the messiah was not so much of a person, but a system, and in today's situation this messianic vision is yet to be fulfilled", Fr. Miguel pointed out.
