INTRODUCTION:

The Human Resources Development (HRD '82) Programme, a leadership training course of the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) Asia/Pacific is the successor to the earlier project of a similar nature, Asia Secretaries Formation. The first of the HRD Programmes was held this year in Thailand at the Student Christian Centre, Bangkok. Sixteen of the twenty member movements nominated one or more participants to this event. Beginning August 2, and stretched over a period of three weeks, participants from various national member movements and fraternal organisations devoted their time and attention to leadership formation by examining in detail various aspects of the Asian and Pacific societies. To enable this process, the discussions centred on the theme: "Education for Human Development."

This Programme sponsored by the WSCF Asia/Pacific under its programme concern "Movement Building and Leadership Formation", gave special attention to the promotion and formation of women's leadership in the Region. The emphasis on participation of women at the current session brought together sixteen women participants. It is with no exaggeration that one could claim this to be the first programme of the Region with a majority of women in attendance.
