H R D   PROGRAMME  REPORT

WSCF ASIA-PACIFIC REGION

INTRODUCTION

The World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) Asia-Pacific Region conducted the Human Resources Development'91 (HRD'91) programme at the Continuing Education Center of the University of the Philippines in Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines from 22 April to 12 May. The theme of the programme was "...be transformed by the renewal of your mind..."

The HRD is part of the WSCF's leadership thrust to build future leaders for the ecumenical community as well as to strengthen the constituencies. The HRD aims to equip participants with tools of analysis and to broaden their understanding of the socio-economic and political realities so that they can commit themselves to the struggles of the people. In addition to this, HRD'91 specifically aimed to make a thorough and critical review of the state, character and relevance of SCM in the various countries of Asia and the Pacific.

The HR.D'91 content consisted of four parts: (1) workshops on resources for SCM empowerrnent; (2) critical review of SCM; (3) inputs -- Bible studies and faith reflections; presentations on patriarchy and women's oppression, church and society, worship, liturgy and music; and (4) exposure to Philippine realities.

There were 26 participants coming from twelve countries in Asia and the Pacific. They were mostly general secretaries, staff or programme secretaries and students of their respective SCMs.

Following were some of the guidelines set for the conduct of all the HRD'91 processes: use inclusive language; use simple vocabulary; speak slowly and clearly; use signs and other forms of cultural language; respect different backgrounds and cultures; respect and listen to one another.
