Models of Social Analysis
Philippe said there are
various models of social analysis. Because of limited time, however, he
presented two models: (1)
After the four days of
intensive workshop, participants made an evaluation of their experience. A few
of their comments are reported here:
1. The small group discussions helped
cut down barriers and made communication easy. They could express and communicate
freely with each other without feeling nervous as in big groups and plenary
sessions. They said they learned more about each other, their SCMs, etc.,
through these small group interactions. They suggested that this method be used
in future programmes.
2. The analysis Philippe presented
would be very helpful and useful for them in their own context of the SCM and
the society. They said they could now think of where they were in their own organisations and critically assess the goals and aims of
the movement in a broader perspective.
3. The tools for analysis, especially
the leadership training models were very useful and they could adopt these in
their own SCMs.
4. Most of the participants confessed
they were a bit confused at the begining of the
workshop. Since they were not used to participatory kind of workshop they felt
a bit frustrated not knowing where it was all leading to. But at the end they
felt that the participatory kind of approach was better in terms of making them
critically think and analyse themselves, their work,
their movements, goals, visions, priorities, etc. It was their first time to
do analysis with the self first and they felt it was very important to do that
before moving on to other factors.
