ACKNOWLEDGMENT

This booklet is an updated version of a paper presented by Bastiaan Wielenga at the Regional Committee Meeting of the World Student Christian Federation Asia-Pacific (WSCF A-P) region held on 27 June - 5 July, 1991 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The paper poses many challenges to the Student Christian Movements in the light of their very nature and being as movements for social transformation as well as that of the changing realities worldwide — socio-economic, political-ideological, cultural-ecological, etc. As the WSCF begins to celebrate its centenary, we hope the SCMs will meet these challenges courageously for the renewal of its life and mission.

We are grateful to Bastiaan Wielenga who shared his thoughts on this very relevant subject and who also updated this paper for the purpose of sharing with a wider readership.

We are also thankful to the WSCF A-P support staff. Iris Li and Violet John; and friends Hope Antone and Lucy Tan who all helped make the publication of this booklet possible.
