Introduction

In response to the ongoing ministry of the churches and Student Christian Movements(SCM) in the academic community, the CCA and WSCF-AP jointly sponsors national and regional consultations. The purpose of these consultations is to make a critical analysis of the role of universities and students in the wider context of church and society in the region.

The theme of 2003 CCA/WSCF Joint Consultation was “Ecumenical Student Ministry in the Asia Pacific Region-

Its Challenges and Mission”.     The Consultation called upon 20 participants not only to review but also to articulate the vision and mission of the ecumenical student ministry in the era of “globalization” and “war on terror”.

The Consultation began with the keynote presentation that affirmed a solid cooperation between CCA and WSCF towards ecumenical student ministry.  In the group discussion, the participants could reflect the past 8 years’ joint programs, and came up with concrete proposals and suggestions.   In the Joint Statement, the two partners committed themselves to “actively involve in the challenges that are faced by the student ministry and provide it with guiding tools to help develop the vitality in the mission of ecumenical student ministry”.

I hope this report will encourage the constituencies of CCA and WSCF-AP to envision and cooperate together towards the ecumenical student ministry in the Asia-Pacific region.
